No not the kind to lose weight, though from what I hear a lot of people eat this way to lose weight. Last summer I had a blood test for food allergies and this summer, my oldest has the same test. Unfortunately, we both showed sensitivities to dairy and gluten. I wasn't surprised about the dairy for either of us, and often wondered if gluten could be an issue. Now it is time for both of us to go completely dairy and gluten free.
I think that this is going to be a really difficult thing for both of us. Obviously, since I had the blood test over a year ago and haven't gone completely gluten or dairy free yet, I am going to have a really hard time. The good part for Michael is that I will be the one figuring out what I am going to be making for meals and snacks. He won't have a choice like I do. I have to make the right choice for me and him.
I have been reading some blogs that are gluten free focused and dairy free focused. I am hoping that I will feel some relief from my foggy brain that I sometimes get. When we talked to the dietician about Michael's test results, we mentioned that at one point we were concerned about him being on the Autism spectrum. My husband is no longer concerned, and even though I didn't pick up on things earlier, I am now the one that continues to have concerns that there may be more than just a speech delay. The dietician mentioned that we may see some changes neurologically once Michael gets the gluten out of his system. I am hoping that we see some changes since I have heard that diet can play a huge role in people's behaviors.
The other issue with diet is, my mom found out that she is a gene carrier for breast cancer. I am more than likely going to get tested for the gene, but I also want to change my diet to help keep myself healthy even if I don't have the gene.
I am hoping to find some good bread recipes since that is going to be the hardest for me to give up as well as for Michael to give up. What I have been finding lately is that I need to let go of what I expect things to taste like. I can't expect that gluten free and dairy free foods, unless they are naturally gluten and dairy free, to taste the same as the regular foods will taste.
If anyone has any good recipes, cookbooks, blogs, or any info at all, please leave a comment. If you have any suggestions on how best to tackle this, please leave a comment. I will be researching and reading blogs often!
Wish me luck!

Muffin Tin Meals
For someone who likes to be creative, I certainly am not having much creative spark lately. I can't figure out simple creative craft projects for my kids to do. I asked my twins group and got a good amount of suggestions on things to do with the kids (thankfully). Then, I was reading another twin mom's blog at http://www.reanbean.com/ and got the idea for muffin tin meals. I certainly can use any ideas when it comes to getting my kids to eat their meals better and this seems like it is worth a try. Maybe my kids are too young, maybe it won't make a difference, or maybe just maybe they'll find it fun and they will eat better. Maybe they won't throw their plate on the floor after dumping their food on their high chair tray. I'm not sure anything will help, but this looks like a fun way to try even snacks. I will be checking out fun muffin tins and silicone miffin cups. I may try the muffin cups first and see how that goes over.
With regards to getting the kids involved in crafts, I got a few great ideas from some other twin moms. I have some what of a plan on attempting to get the kids involved in doing things that will be creative and help to work on their motor skills. Maybe it will keep them busy so that I can also do something creative along with them.
What I find to be the toughest part about finding creative things to do with the kids, other than actually coming up with the ideas, is figuring out how to get all 3 kids involved. I think some of the ideas that I have in mind will work well and I can do an adult version of what they are doing. I do need to get a few supplies for some of the ideas, but I also have some supplies that will work in the interim. Maybe, I can even tie the craft projects into their EI work/goals?!
Look for future pictures of the kids creative craft projects!

Early Intervention
Our EI evals start tomorrow. We will have 2 people at the house tomorrow to start the process. I am not really sure what to expect and am assuming that all 3 kids will qualify for speech. I would have to say that Michael has some useful communication skills, but not a ton. He hasn't put words together yet and is almost 2 1/2. He is starting to say more and say things like bye appropriately, but noting really more than that. I am a little concerned that there is more to this than just a speech delay, but it is probably my obsessive nature that is rearing it's ugly head. The twins are not really talking either, but they are only 18 months and I thin they are doing more than Michael did at this age, but are still behind where they should be. I am hoping that EI will give me and my husband pointers on what we should be doing differently. I will feel so guilty is there have been things that I should have been doing but haven't that may have contributed to this delay. the good thing is that if they get accepted by EI, then they will get teh help that they need and I have heard so many positive stories about how EI has benefitted other's kids.
Along with the EI evals, I plan to start planning my meals better. This will help in so many ways. This is one of the major stressors in my life. I am just not good at being organized and having things planned. Along with that I will be doing better at getting myself organized with regards to daily cleaning. I need to stop trying to do things all at once and start doing things in small doses so that I don't get overwhelmed by the many tasks that go along with having a house, taking care of small kids, having a husband, and now a part time job. I need to get better at planning and scheduling so that life goes a little smoother.
Thanks for reading,
